Late Night Lounge at the Sydney Opera House was the first one of a series and the whole concept is very cool. A mixture of acts including (on this first night) amazing Ari the aerialist, cabaret artist Meow Meow, excellent drag queen Amelia Airhead, popsters Frisky and Mannish, if you’re into Hula Hoopin’ Kira Carden, chick singer (that would be me) and bloke singer (that would be Tex Perkins).

Coming Up

Just looking through my calender for the next few weeks. I relate it to patting my head and rubbing my stomach.

How does a woman keep up!!!  I know how, I have the coolest job. I get to play music to music lovers, I get to associate with great and talented people. On Australia Day this was in the form of Kasey Chambers and Bec Cole at our gig in Terrigal. HOT, but awesome.

Also, I get to travel. Last year to Hong Kong, NZ (twice) and the Middle East and in March of course, I’m back to NZ for the NZ Arts Festival.

So when I’m moaning about how busy I am, I just need to read back over this.

Note to self ….. Stop Whining…. (said with Austrian (no, not AustRALIAN) accent).

C’est tout. Jx

Huzzah!

Happy New Year, and I mean it! I think if the people around us are happy, it’s catching …

… so I’m going to think about other people’s happiness a bit more this year. That means my family and friends, co-creators, colleagues, community – small and large. I’m going to rein in my selfishness (apart from Lindt Balls and nice underwear) and think about what’s going on outside my head instead. JM

Xmas wishes.

Had a great gig in Queensland last saturday at Strathpine. It was a big outdoor concert where the fireworks and the people went off. I love this time of the year because people are a lot more outward thinking rather than self concerned. The audience had a very cool vibe that was all about relaxation and consideration. It would be nice to carry that all year round  …

Heres to the millions in other places where the last thing they will be thinking about is xmas, and who’s over riding thoughts will be about food and shelter. Shame on the TV announcer who told Lisa Wilkinson this morning on Channel 9 that giving a goat to a family in a developing nation as a xmas present was a rip off present.

Wheels for a Day. Jenny with Grant Hacket, Jonesy, Amanda and Julia Morris

Wheels for a Day. Jenny with Grant Hacket, Jonesy, Amanda and Julia Morris

Today I was in a race, I had to complete an obstacle course in a wheelchair in the fastest time I could in Martin Place Sydney.

I had pretty stiff opponents, not the least of whom were GRANT HACKETT (yes you heard me), Jonesy and Amanda and Julia Morris! We had to buy a coffee then take it and put it on a table, go to an ATM, go buy a newspaper, open a door, go through and close it then get on a bus and off again.

So what! I hear you say. Well let me tell you, I have a whole new respect for the disabled after that, especially my two lovely sisters-in-law who deal with these issues daily. It’s BLOODY HARD!

Who won? Well, suffice it to say, I have a shiny trophy sitting on the piano. (Yes, I, the pipsqueak, beat Grant AND Jonesy, sorry about that.)

Sorry I haven’t had a chance to log in since I got here. The places I’ve been and the people I’ve met have been way out of my normal realm. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you some of the wildest experiences we’ve had for security reasons but suffice it to say, we now know something of the conditions and experiences of the troops here. We have played in several places in the middle east. One of them is Taren Kowt in Afghanistan. It is a camp run by the Dutch but with Australians well represented. The Australians have such a great mix of professionalism and human-ness which is unique among all the nations represented here. It is SO the right thing to do to come here and entertain them. They are very concerned for the local population and their horrendous predicament. The base hospital sees many more locals than troops. They are constantly trying to save the lives of Afghans caught up in the horror. They are helping rebuild and train and advise. Playing again tonight and then we’re off home.

It’s awesome getting to know the other performers, Dianna Corcoran, Jackson, Clinton and James from Violet Flames, Dave Jory and of course my band Glen Reither, Adam Miller, Warren Jackson and Kit Riley. Great to share the experience with them and I mean EXPERIENCE!

That’s it for now. Photos coming.
